A mechanical engineer is running in Chatham-Kent's (CK) upcoming election.
Spencer Stinson is hoping to be one of two Ward 2 councillors, representing people living in Blenheim, Ridgetown, and other smaller communities.
He told CK News Today he decided to put his name forward instead of hoping somebody else would be the representative that the area needs.
"There's one less seat than there was in the last election, so that gives us even less of a voice. [We need] someone with a strong voice who's gonna put the residents first, which I think I can do," explained Stinson.
If elected, he plans on advocating for better spending and support for small businesses. Arguably, Stinson's top issue is improving local infrastructure, especially when it comes to preventing flooding.
"[After] it rained a little while ago, I talked to multiple residents, and they were told that's the way it is now, you're gonna have flooding, and I just don't think that's acceptable," he added.
When asked why he believes people should vote for him, Stinson was quick to say the Ward would get a representative who truly wants what's best for everyone.
"I'm not just here for people who have nothing and people who have everything. I hope I can speak to everyone. A strong community is a community where everyone succeeds," he said.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
