Organizers of this year's Show Us Your Brave campaign say they raised over $400,000 to support local cancer care.
"Since its launch, Show Us Your Brave has become more than a fundraiser. It has evolved into an experience that celebrates resilience, honours those affected by cancer, and reminds us that courage is contagious," read a release.
For most people, showing their brave involved telling a personal story or stepping outside their comfort zone, but for 115 people, it was rappelling down the CIBC Building in downtown Windsor on May 23.
"Standing on the edge of the building was intimidating, but it reminded me that cancer patients face challenges far greater than a rappel every single day," said Nina Mastrogiacomo, who works at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre and participated in the fundraiser. "Taking part in Show Us Your Brave and Brave Day gave me the opportunity to honour the courage of our cancer patients and fundraise for those in our community affected by cancer."
More than 2,000 donations were made this year, "demonstrating our community's unwavering commitment to ensuring exceptional cancer care remains available close to home," said the release.
Every dollar raised through the campaign stays local and supports care at the Windsor Cancer Centre.
