Registration underway for Jingle Bell Build

Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton is registering teams for its second annual Jingle Bell Build.

Chief Executive Officer David Waters referred to the event as the "ultimate gingerbread building contest for adults."

"Teams of six compete against one another to build a gingerbread house and have some fun, eat some food, win some prizes. We're pretty excited about that," Waters said.

Given 2024's intense competition, Waters said they wanted to create a more level playing field.

"Last year was our first year and we saw people bring totes and suitcases full of stuff. So, we sort of had to reel that in a little bit. So, everybody is supplied a couple of bags and they can fill those bag as high as they want or with as much as they can fit in those bags. But, that's it," he said.

Each team is provided two gingerbread house building kits, with icing and candy, a base to build on and two hours to complete their houses. Additional candy/supplies can also be purchased during the event.

"To have people out supporting us, and aligning with our mission of building homes, is great to see," Waters said.

About 20 teams had registered by the end of November, almost doubled from 2024.

The event, which includes a buffet supper, is being held at 5 p.m. on December 11 at the Dante Club on London Road in Sarnia.
