The community turned out in a big way to support non-profits in the Town of LaSalle.
The second LaSalle Gives Back campaign, an initiative by the LaSalle Firefighters Associations to help local groups during the holiday season, took place from November 13 to 15.
Firefighters and community volunteers took to the streets to accept donations and distribute newsletters.
On Tuesday, organizers reported a total of $72,834 in donations, shattering the mark set by last year's inaugural take of $66,049.
The LaSalle Hangout for Youth has received $5,000 of that money. The rest has been presented to the St. Andrews Anglican Church Community Food Bank.
"We’re truly humbled by the incredible generosity and support from our community," said Chris Carr of the LaSalle Firefighters Associations. "Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and supported this fundraiser. Your kindness is what makes a real difference to support these two incredible organizations. Together, we’ve shown what community truly means."
The objective was to make sure the donations went back into the LaSalle community.
