Four people were pulled from Lake Huron after storms passed through the area late Wednesday afternoon.
Sarnia Fire Rescue, along with Point Edward Fire and Rescue were called at 5:27 p.m. to the Fort Street area where strong currents were sweeping three family members toward the mouth of the St. Clair River.
Before emergency crews arrived, alert bystanders stepped in to help remove all three individuals from the water.
Lambton EMS assessed and treated the individuals on scene before transporting them to Bluewater Health for further evaluation.
About 30 minutes later, emergency responders received a second distress call reporting a swimmer roughly 150 metres offshore in the Brights Grove area.
Sarnia Fire Rescue Marine 1 was immediately redirected from the Fort Street scene, while Engine 5 (E5) responded by land.
Upon arrival, the land-based crew entered the water and successfully brought the swimmer safely to shore without further incident.
In an online statement following the incidents, Sarnia Fire Rescue emphasized how critical community assistance and multi-agency coordination are during rapidly changing weather conditions on Lake Huron.
The department extended its gratitude to all involved, including the Canadian Coast Guard, Point Edward Fire and Rescue, Lambton County EMS, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, and local bystanders whose fast actions helped prevent tragedy.
