City celebrates yearly casino contributions

Over the last 31 years, the City of Windsor has received $131.5 million for hosting the casino.

As part of the Municipality Contribution Agreement with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the city received $9,514,363 for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Each year, the funds are directed to capital projects like road work and park improvements

"There are some projects that we certainly couldn't complete, we wouldn't be able to start some of the projects if this money wasn't coming it. It's an incredible boost to what we can do in the city," said Michael Chantler, senior executive director of community services with the City of Windsor.

The funds were celebrated at Wilson Park in west Windsor because part of last year's funds were directed toward park upgrades.

"It's all about improving life for people in the community," said Kathleen Devine, senior municipal relations manager at OLG. "Just hearing about roadwork, potholes, sewers, flood preparations , parks, rec, pickleball courts, the list goes on and on and has for years."

In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the city received $9,878,268 from the partnership. The payments are issued four times a year and are based off of the casino revenues.
