CBSA agents seize nicotine products at Windsor bridges

Only a day after announcing a series of weapon-related seizures and arrests, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) turned its attention to tobacco products.

Border agents confiscated over 600 kilograms of nicotine pouches and over 10,000 nicotine vapes from commercial trucks at three border crossings, including two in Windsor.

The seizures were made over 48 hours.

On September 25, 128 kilograms of nicotine pouches were seized from a commercial driver at the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie.

The following day, an inspection at the Gordie Howe International Bridge resulted in the confiscation of 481 kilograms of tobacco products from a commercial truck.

Finally, on September 27, CBSA agents at the Ambassador Bridge found some 10,200 nicotine vapes from a commercial driver.

A CBSA spokesperson told WindsorNewsToday.ca that each seizure must be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and the product was seized with no terms of release.

The investigations continue.
